We Have Experienced Peace In DELSU Since Egwunyenga Took Over As VC, Says SSANU Chairman
By Daniel Dafe
The Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka Branch, Comrade Monday Izu, has said that the institution has enjoyed unprecedented peace since Professor Andy Egwunyenga took over as Vice Chancellor (VC).
Speaking to Oasis Magazine (OM) recently during an exclusive chat, the fearless SSANU boss added: “People now work under a more peaceful and conducive environment.”
He continued: “Within the short space of time the new VC came on board, fairness and humane treatment prevails on a daily basis.
“SSANU is aware of the staff welfare decisions he has taken so far. Many of those transferred under suspicious circumstances by the Peretomode-led administration have been brought back. It is unheard of that a junior staff is transferred away from the main campus. Also, for the senior staff, many that were transferred under vindictive ground by the last administration just because they either said the truth or insisted that the right thing be done have been brought back.
“He has even paid the last tranche of arrears he met that were owed us. On this entire basis, we have decided to work with him and stabilize his administration.
“During his thanksgiving, we are not only going to thank God with him, but for us too that at last we can work in peace.”
Speaking further, he said: “We have paid him a courtesy visit and given him a list of what we think he should do for us. We are given him time to settle down and look at them. But even at that, he has started implementing some of the things we told him including the transfer of staff.
“We also told him of the need to allow people further their courses. He has started approving that. If in the nearest future he does not touch some of the things we asked for, we will come together and discuss with him.”
