-Urges Urhobo Leaders To Support Indigenes Financially
By Daniel Dafe
The President, Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Youthwing, Worldwide Comrade Efemena Umukoro, has called on Deltans to support and embrace the proactive measures taken by the Delta State Government to tackle the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic in the state.
Umukoro, who spoke to Oasis Magazine (OM) in an exclusive chat, added: “We are glad that we have not yet recorded any case in Delta; but for this to continue, we must keep to the directives of the State Government per time.”
While commending the Governor, Sen. Dr. Ifewanyi Okowa over the lockdown measure announced yesterday, he urged the government of the state and well-meaning Deltans to come to the aid of the poor by making basic necessities such as food and little financial support available to them.
He noted: “These are trying times and everyone must brace up to the challenge and be up and doing.”
Furthermore, he advised Urhobo sons and daughters to adhere to the directive of the NCDC.
He said: ‘If we are not alive, then there is no Urhobo; we need to be alive to promote our cultural heritage.
“We shall be visiting Urhobo rural communities to sensitize our people and also share sanitizers to them.”
Umukoro called on other well-to-do Urhobo youths, politicians and religious leaders to think of ways of assisting Urhobo indigenes in these hard times, stressing that the Office of the Presidency of the youth wing of UPU is doing this project as a personal sacrifice to Urhobo Nation.
“This is the best time to give financial and moral support to our people,” he added.
According to him, this period is a hard time not only for Delta State, but the globe at large.
He called on all as sundry to remain calm, but prayerful, as he expressed optimism that help will come soon.
