Sports, A Veritable Tool For Development, Says Umukoro

The President of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Youthwing, Worldwide, Comrade Efemena Umukoro, has said that sports is a veritable tool for development in every nation.
Umukoro said this during a chat with journalists in Abraka during the 18th annual inter-house athletic competition of Abraka Grammar School, Abraka recently.
The Urhobo youth leader who graced the occasion as one of the special guests, added: “The Delta State Government must be commended for their commitment to sports at the grassroots.”
Continuing, he noted that sports is a unifying force for people and can keep our youths busy and distract them from crime and criminality. It is also a tool for unity.
He continued: “Activities of such nature like I witnessed today always catches good athletes young. Apart from asking our students and pupils to read their books, we must also encourage them to engage in sports.”
While congratulating Ogboru House for emerging as the overall best during the competition, he commended the management for putting forth a well packaged event, saying that the sports committee did a great job.
Also, he gave kudos to Majoroh and Evance Ivwurie houses that came out second and third respectively.
He advised the management to take note of all those that took first, second and third positions in all the sporting activities to be penciled down and sent to represent the locality when there is a call by the government of the state for athletes during a competition.
Meanwhile, he disclosed that he gave his little financial to the school authority in response to the request for support in the areas of providing desks, flooring of some of the classroom and other needs and promised to relate with other Urhobo youths to do more.
Furthermore, he commended the Governor over his strides in the areas of road construction, health care, education and security, but called on the governor to consider more inputs in basic education.
Speaking further, he urged DESOPADEC to come to the aid of schools aid in providing desks for pupils and students where they need to.
