Busted! Prominent Asaba Indigene & Brother To Former Commissioner Tests Positive For COVID-19 In Delta

A prominent Asaba indigene, who we also gathered is a brother to a former Commissioner in Delta State, (name withheld) has tested positive to Coronavirus (COVID-19) and said to be in isolation at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba.

Our source from FMC under conditions of anonymity said the patient’s case is mild, undergoing treatment, but expressed fears that it is probable that many in Asaba would have been affected since he is a jolly-good-fellow, a social man and has been moving around.

According to investigation, the case may have become infected after he attended a party organized by a family member on the 29th of March, 2020 in Asaba that another of his relative from Lagos attended.

Our source said the family member from Lagos is suspected to have infected the said prominent Asaba indigene.

This source wants a red flag raised for Asaba residents in order for them to obey the fresh 14-day lockdown order of Governor Okowa after the state just concluded a 14-day lockdown exercise.

Continuing, our source said: “I just pray that our people do not die in large numbers. Anyone up to 70 years that contracts it might likely die because of their weak immune system. I am very scared right now.”

Meanwhile, Deltans have wondered why the Delta State Governor after the first 14-day lockdown, decided to extend the exercise and even added stricter measures like limiting market days to Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, and as well, imposing a dusk to dawn curfew between 7p.m. and 7a.m. daily during the lockdown.

The source said that the said case compelled the governor to extend the lockdown.

The Governor in his broadcast had announced that the extension is necessary to identify, isolate and detect cases, saying that “it is for public good and interest of our health. I urge all Deltans to cooperate with us.”

He said: “In the past 14 days, the state recorded its index case of COVID-19, its first death from the Coronavirus and a total of three positive cases of the virus infection.”

Speaking further, Okowa disclosed that a total of 70 contacts have been identified with the 3 cases in the state with 46 already reached who are now in self isolation at their homes and in government isolation centres.

Attempts to reach the Commissioner for Information, Delta State, Mr. Charles Aniagwu’s proved abortive as his mobile phone number was switched off at the time of filing this report.
