COVID-19: The Lockdown Directive By DTSG Is For Our Good— Majemite

…Says Ethiope East Has Totally Complied

The Executive Chairman of Ethiope East Local Government Area, Chief (Mrs.) Faith Majemite, has commended residents in the area over their strict compliance to the directive of the Delta State Government for a 14-day lockdown as a measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
Majemite, who spoke to Oasis Magazine (OM) during a phone conversation on day 3 of the exercise, added that the directive is for everyone’s good, noting that social distance was a potent tool to prevent the spread of the disease.
Her words: “Ethiope is in total compliance with the lockdown order as directed by the Government of Delta State.
“On Day 3, I went round the markets with the members of the committee to monitor residents and enforce the directive; everything is going on fine. There is no negative incidence and we are doing well. People are complying and we are also enforcing. The people of Ethiope East are peace loving and law abiding citizens.”
On the control of price for food items, she commended the committee for doing a good job.
She said: “A basket of garri was sold at between 700 to 800 naira in all the markets in the locality. The committee is doing their work with the help of the local vigilante and security operatives. I learnt some persons beat the traffic and were in Kokori to buy garri that was sold at 3000 naira per basin and 600 naira for the basket.”
On her preparedness for any outbreak, she said: “We are using Eku Government Hospital as a centre for isolation for COVID-19 patients in case it happens. But, so far, so good, no cases have been reported and we hope we do not get any negative report.
“Numbers to call have been distributed in pamphlets to residents in the local government. I even added my number. Also, there is an ambulance on ground to ferry anyone to the hospital in case anyone develops symptoms of Coronavirus. We are ready.”
To people in the area, she urged them to continue to be law abiding citizens, stressing that the lockdown and the outbreak of the disease in the country will soon be a thing of the past.
