COVID-19: ‘We Can Movement’ Donates Food Items To Old, Needy Persons In Sapele

In line with its mandate to inspire a new generation of young Nigerians who are development focused, community service oriented and civically conscious, the ‘We Can Movement’ ably led by Godbless Otubure (National Team Lead), a Son of Sapele from Okwovu 1 and a Mandela Washington Fellow (USA), teamed up with Comrade Agbajor Nelson, the Secretary, Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ), Delta State (Sapele Chapel)/Publisher, Inhispresence Live  and Comrade Jakpa Bemigho, a renowned humanitarian journalist and  Advocate for the indigent to support the entire 20 wards in Sapele Local Government Area.

Otubure is also an alumnus of University of Virginia and College of William and Mary State Development Programs – USA, an Obama-Foundation Young Leader, President of ‘Ready To Lead Africa’ and current Lagos State Coordinator ‘Not Too Young To Run’ as well as a partner with the US Government and US Consulate Lagos.

The team which is composed of vibrant, visionary, public spirited and public service oriented individuals with a track record of community development works, few days ago gave out alms to the old and needy in all said community.

The move came as a palliative measure to cushion the effect of the lockdown directive aimed at curbing the spread of the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

According to beneficiaries, they stated that the group’s donation would help to alleviate the suffering of the masses as a result of the restriction.

The team leader, Godbless Otubure, who spoke on behalf of the team, appreciated Sapele Community for their patience and cooperation with the government’s directives on the instructions and modalities put in place to curb the spread of Coronavirus in Delta State.

He called on the community to continue to maintain social distance, stay safe and healthy, washing their hands regularly with soap and water as directed by the Nigeria Centre for Decease Control (NCDC).

He also commended the community for the peaceful relationship they have maintained and urged them to continue its sustenance which he said would always impart on the community positively.
It should also be on records that the team relied on data gathered over a period of 1 year to identify the poorest of the poor in the 20 wards in Sapele to ensure that the palliatives were properly directed and distributed.
