Group Lauds Umukoro For Covid-19 Palliatives In Orogun Clan

A socio-cultural group, Orogun Comrade Community, has applauded the palliatives (food items) distributed to the good people of Orogun clan to cushion the economic effects of the novel Covid-19, by the President of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Youthwing, Comrade Efemena Umukoro.

The coordinator of the Orogun Comrade Community, Comrade Reuben Imonisa, said the gesture is unprecedented in the history of Urhobo, and a reaffirmation of the president’s commitment to lead from the front.
While also commending the committee saddled with the responsibility to distribute the palliatives, Comrade Imonisa, expressed satisfaction over the methods designed to identify the vulnerable and mode of delivery, which is perfectly in tandem with the Federal Government social and physical distancing policy.

Comrade Imonisa also called on thought and political leaders, senior civil servants, and philanthropists in Orogun to complement the efforts of Umukoro with further distribution of palliatives as hunger is as vicious as Covid-19.

“The one month lockdown has halted economic activities in Orogun clan; but Umukoro has taken the lead, other leaders should also assist our people with food items,” Imonisa pleaded.

The group also eulogized the Okpara-Uku of Orogun clan for the sensitization drive across all communities to amplify the principal of social distancing.

“The Okpara-Uku in his wisdom, has rescheduled the annual festival, and funded a sensitization campaign across villages in Orogun clan, we are confident that this effort would help our people to observe all the precautionary measures needed to push back the deadly pandemic.

“Let me also commend members of the Comrade community for the immense financial and moral contributions towards the sensitization drive, it is indeed, commendable,” Imonisa added.

Also, a leader in the comrade community, Mr. Felix Orogunfere Okpako, equally commended Comrade Umukoro for his philanthropic disposition, communication with his people in Orogun clan and sense of empathy in a very difficult time.

Comrade Okpako expressed satisfaction over what he described as equitable distribution of food items to all the villages in Orogun clan.

He said: “We have over 15 communities in Orogun clan in a very complex landscape, but I am satisfied with the method adopted to convey the palliatives to the doorstep of our people; such has never happened in our recent history.”
Meanwhile, Comrade Umukoro has clocked 100 days in office as leader of Urhobo youths worldwide.

In a statement made available to this medium, Umukoro thanked everyone that stood by his administration for their support , prayers and concern since he assumed office.

He continued: “By His grace, today is my 100 days in office and within this short time we have been able to support some indigenes in Urhobo Nation in Udu, Ewu and Orogun communities where I presented hand sanitizers, food items (garri,rice and beans)and little cash support in some cases.

“I achieved this with zero allocation and the support and prayers of many.”

According to him, he has changed the narrative and hopes to with the support of other executive members move the youth body forward.

Continuing, he urged the youths and leaders in Urhobo land to continue to partner with him and give him needed advice and suggestions to accomplish his task for the people.
