Rights Activist, Umukoro Appointed As Member State Community Policing Committee In Delta

A vibrant activist and the National President of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Youthwing, Comrade Efemena Umukoro, has been appointed as one of the eleven members of the State Community Policing Committee (SCPC) in Delta State by the police authority in the state.
The SCPC is to manage and coordinate the state community policing programme, foster security awareness and monitor progress on community policing.
Umukoro will represent the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in the SCPC.
Other members of the said Committee were selected to each represent different persons/groups in the body.
SCPC is made up of a representative of the Commissioner of Police, a traditional ruler and one representative each from the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, Civil Society Organizations, Labour Union, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), National Council of Women Society, people living with disabilities, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
A letter signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Delta State Command, DCP Mamman Rijau, to Comrade Umukoro informing him of his choice in the Committee, said SCPC was in line with the Nigeria community policing structure approved by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu.
SCPC, we gathered will be inaugurated on Friday, May 22, 2020, at the Bouquet Hall, Government House, Asaba by the Delta State Governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa.
Speaking to journalists on the development, Umukoro said that the appointment is another opportunity to serve, saying that he is delighted that this is coming at a time like this when security matters most.
He added: “I accept this appointment wholeheartedly and I say congratulations to Nigeria youths because they have gotten a voice in the SCPC; not just a voice but one that is reliable and that they can trust. I promise to put in my best to ensure quality service delivery.”
He commended the IGP, Mohammed Adamu, Governor Okowa and the
Commissioner of Police, Delta State, Hafiz Inuwa for the appointment, as he prayed for God’s wisdom to enable him function properly while in office.
