Delta: Tilije’s Move To Broker Peace In Umutu Fails Over Alleged Vandalism By Youths

The fragile peace in Umutu in Ukwuani Local Council of Delta State heightened at the weekend as the peace committee set up to reconcile the community left without achieving its set objectives.
The committee, led by the state’s Commissioner for Finance, Chief Fidelis Tilije, was almost seeing the process through at the palace of the Okpala-Uku, His Royal Highness, High Chief Sunday Enweliku Ossai, with all titled chiefs seated, before the peace efforts got truncated when the team moved to the residence of the Onotu-Uku (traditional prime minister), High Chief Ojo Obianuko.
The bone of contention was the allegation of oil fund embezzlement and subsequent refusal of the Onotu-Uku to reconcile with the community spokesman, Chief Solomon Iguru.
The traditional ruler was also asked to rescind his decision of blaming the community Youth President, Mr. James Uduogwu and Public Relations Officer, Mr. Melvin Ogbuta for their alleged roles in the vandalisation of his palace, community bus, Chief Iguru’s residence and three motorcycles.
Earlier, Tilije, who was flanked by the Deputy Speaker, Ochor Ochor, while suing for peace, both promised to repair the damages caused by the youths and pleaded with the warring factions to work together for the sake of peace and overlook everything that has happened so far in the community.
