By Daniel Dafe
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sapele Correspondents’ Chapel, has commended the Commissioner of Police (CP) in Delta State, CP Hafiz Inuwa, over his commitment to reduce crime to the barest minimum in the state.
Speaking during a courtesy call on the police boss earlier today, the Chairman of the Union, Comrade Godwin Oghre who was accompanied by other journalists in the area, said that the visit was to thank the CP for his bold efforts in dealing with crime and criminality, adding that in their area of coverage, crime has drastically reduced.
He recalled the professionalism showed by men of the police force during a protest in Sapele by residents over the lockdown order by the state government.
He continued: “I closely watched how the police officers reacted and I was impressed. Their matured response could only have happened because they have someone like you at the helm of police affairs in the state.
“You have demonstrated discipline and engaged a well-thought out crime management arrangement in communities in our area and we believe that is the same story across the state.
“We will continue to partner with you to gain more grounds in the area of security in Sapele, Abraka, Okpe, Uvwie, Ethiope East and Ethiope West Local Government Areas that is under our jurisdiction.”
In his response, the CP thanked the journalists for the visit, as he assured them of a continuous synergy between the police and the press in the state.
Furthermore, he tasked them to continue to play their role as watchdogs in the society.
