Idjerhe Kingship Tussle: Golley Goes Tough, Issues 9-Day Ultimatum To Screening Committee To Produce Ovie-Elect

The Executive Chairman of Ethiope West Local Government Area, Hon Solomon Golley, today issued a nine-day ultimatum to the three Unugbrugodo of Boboruku, Onyobru and Idjerhe Central respectively to set up a thirteen man committee that will choose an Ovie elect for the people of Idjerhe Kingdom.
The council boss who dissolved the 10-man committee set up by the Regent of the Kingdom, Chief Emeje Agoda to select a new king for the kingdom, said that they have waited long enough.
Golley, who hosted a crucial meeting of the Council-in-chiefs from Onyobru, Boboroku and Jesse central at the council secretariat in Oghara, capital of Ethiope West Local Government Area in Delta State, today, with a task to find a lasting way forward to the kingship tussle in the community, frowned at the unnecessary delay in the selection process.

“I think the kingship issue has taken too much time; that is why we have decided that the three Unugbrodo (most senior chief from the three subclan that make up the Idjerhe kingdom should meet and within twenty-four hours nominate names for a new thirteen man screening committee, and we have given the would-be committee to take the remaining days to do a thorough screening where a credible and qualified candidate will be picked. I have also asked them to communicate with the leaders in their kingdom. I assure you by next week Friday, we will have a new Ovie elect,” insisting that anyone who undermines his authority will have to contend with him.
Meanwhile Chief Williams Atiti, and Chief Solomon Odemero Ojariefe, have assured the people of Idjerhe Kingdom of credible members in the thirteen man committee that will be set up for the selection of the Ovie elect.
Chief Atiti who spoke on the procedure of picking the committee members said “we will make sure the members are credible, who will be unbiased in their selection and the people of the kingdom can be rest assured they will have an Ovie elect that they can be proud of.”
On his part, Ojariefe assured that the crisis in the kingdom will soon be a thing of the past.
“We are peace loving people and law abiding. We will make sure we keep to the time frame and I am very sure that by next week, we will be having an Ovie elect,” he added.
