Kingship Selection Is Spiritual— Regent Of Idjerhe Kingdom
-Gives Reasons For Suspension Of Two Committee Members
The regent of Idjerhe kingdom, Chief Emeje Agoda, has said that the selection of a new king is a spiritual exercise, adding that the decision to drop two members from the committee charged with the selection of a new king in Idjerhe Kingdom, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State was taken to avert some mysterious happenings in the community.
Emeje who was addressing the press on Monday on the new development said “two persons in the ten men committee, delegated with the responsibility of picking a new monarch, Prince David Iweta, and Chief Sagoe have been dropped from the committee.”
According to him, one was found supporting a candidate, and it was obvious that he won’t be fair.
He continued: “The other person nominated for the Secretary has also been dropped from the committee because he is not a Chief. You know the committee is made up of credible chiefs from across the kingdom and the kingship issue is not ordinary, you can’t just take anybody to debate on this issue,” adding that the committee has been given a month to present the rightful person.
On his part, the Unugbrodo of Idjerhe kingdom, Chief Solomon Ojariefe who spoke to newsmen said though Prince David Iweta was one of the few men who have made their mark in the kingdom, the issue of choosing a king was more than the ordinary, that was why the committee decided to drop him because being a Chief implies spiritual.
On the part of Chief Sago, the newly installed Unugbrodo said, the Chief had a history of supporting a candidate so it was better to avoid sentiment.
Also speaking, the chairman of the committee, Chief Godwin Ofishe, confirmed the removal of the two persons from the committee, adding that the committee is doing everything possible to pick a credible candidate from the ruling houses.
