Student leaders from tertiary institutions in Delta State have thrown their weights behind the governorship ambition of Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi in his bid take over government house in 2023.
The said leaders assured the guber aspirant, Gbagi, when they paid a courtesy visit to him in his country home, Oginibo close to Otujeremi in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.
The students in their hundreds said that they grew up to hear and know Gbagi as a great industrialist who they said is the largest employer of labour in the oil-rich tate.
During the visit, that had representatives from Delta State University, Abraka, (DELSU), Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effrun (FPRE), Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Delta Polytechnic, Ozoro, Delta Polytechnic, Otefe, Oghara and College of Education, Agbor, thanked Olorogun Gbagi for yielding to the call from Deltans to take over the mantle of leadership, come 2023, adding that Deltans need a great industrialist like Gbagi to reinvigorate our moribund industries such as African Timbre and Ply Wood (AT&P), Asaba Textile Mill, Delta Glass Ughelli and a host of others.
The students appealed to Gbagi to concentrate on the establishment of industries where thousands of unemployed youths in Delta can be employed.
According to the students, “we know that you will win the governorship election based on your pedigree, but you should not forget to concentrate on the establishment of industries where Delta youths can be employed’
The students who are the leaders of tomorrow told the former Minister of State for Education to establish more tertiary institutions, adding that he should facilitate the establishment of a Federal Polythecnic in Delta State.
The students also appealed for the continuation of bursary payment to Deltans schooling in tertiary institutions cut across the country and in diaspora, saying that students unions should be given opportunity to always air their views.
Responding, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi appreciated the students for the visit, noting that he holds them in very high esteem.
The Delta born industrialist said that he has noted all their demands.
The PDP political juggernauts added that his wish for Deltans when he takes over the mantle of leadership in 2023 is to attract industries to every nook and cranny of the state.
Olorogun Gbagi who promised to build on the good legacy of Governor Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, told the teeming students that he has mapped out what to do to resuscitate the moribund industries in the state coupled with establishing and attracting new ones where Delta youths can be gainfully employed.
In his words: “resuscitation of all moribund industries and establishing new ones where our youths can be employed will be my utmost priority”
The former Minister who told the students that he established different Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education in different parts of Nigeria as a Minister, however promised that one of his aims is to ensure that every youth in Delta is educated without any hindrance.
The Delta born billionaire called on the students not to listen to money bag politicians when the time comes, adding that they should not mortgage their future because of money.
Gbagi advised the students to continue to support the developmental strides of Governor Okowa and shun any act capable of diverting the attention of the Governor from his excellent works.
