Warri South To Probe Igbudu Market Fire Outbreak

Warri South Local Government Council said a committee will be set up to probe the immediate and remote causes of recent fire outbreaks in Igbudu Market, Warri.

The Chairman of the Council, Dr Michael Tidi, made the disclosure today, when he led top functionaries of the council on a visit to the burnt section of the market.

Dr Tidi expressed displeasure over the effect of the fire outage which according to reports, destroyed goods and propertyy worth millions of naira and by implication affected the livelihood of individuals doing business at the affected section of the market.

While frowning at the act of some persons at the market, who attacked the vehicle of fire fservice personnel that came to put out the fire, Dr Tidi, charged the leadership of the traders’ union to fish out those responsible for attacking the fire fighters, so as to use them as scape goats.

On her part, the Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education, Mrs Gbubemi Ikolo, stated that her visit to the scene of the fire outbreak, was to ascertain the damage caused by the fire and sympathize with the victim.

She assured the victims of the state government’s support, stressing also that the cause of the fire would be investigated, to avoid recurrence, as she expressed displeasure over the idea of turning market premises into residential apartments.

Council functionaries who accompanied the chairman on the visit were the Vice Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Chief Divine Iniovosa, Leader of Warri South Legislative Arm, Hon. Kingsley Edafiadjebre, and Secretary to the Local Government, Mr. Joseph Oribioye.

Others include the Supervisors in the Council and the Warri South Council Head of Personnel Management, Dr Minnie Igbrude.
