Concerned Gbaramatu, Egbema, Ogulagha Youths Issue Seven-Day Ultimatum To Chevron On Implementation Of GMOU Or Expect Shutdown

Concerned Gbaramatu, Egbema, Ogulagha Youths For Community Development Movement in strong terms have called on the Managing Director and the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited to quickly comply on the implementation of the Offshore GMOU for the Communities Development, youths and women training, empowerment, award of scholarship etc.

The group resolved that after the expiration of the seven-day ultimatum if there is no positive response, Chevron Nigeria Limited should expect a zero shut down of operation due to callous neglect of the communities for over twelve years of operation without a single scholarship or project.

In a communique signed by Mr Stephen Amaiwei, Chairman, Mr Powe Sukuru, Vice Chairman, Mr Moses Kala, Secretary, Mr Isaac Okoro, PRO, Mr Ebiwei Kepue, Logistics Director, Mr Ojusin Amputa, Treasurer, Erepade Ojuba, Financial Secretary, Mr Torudiwei lzon-Ebi, Publicity Secretary, Mr Francis Yubor, Mobilising Officer, Mr Thompson Itsekiri, Director Operation, Mr Bekewei Egeresan, Organiser, Mr Louis Abango, Chief Whip, Mr Douglas Emomotimi, Adviser and Mr Abraham Malagha, Assistant Secretary made available to Oasis Magazine (OM), the Concerned Youths of Gbaramatu, Egbema and Ogulagha kingdoms stated tersely thus: “We wish to once again call on His Excellency, Senator Dr Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, the Executive Governor of Delta State over our displeasure regarding the non compliance and long time of reckless abandonment of ljaw Communities by Chevron Nigeria Limited under the arrow head of Hon. George Timinimi as President.

The Concerned Youths of the three kingdoms stated further saying: “In the light of prevailing circumstances which are not acceptable to us as critical stakeholders, we hereby declare our demands as follows:
I. We Demand that Chevron Nigeria Limited should start the immediate and effective operation of the GMOU signed between the management and the three Ijaw kingdoms of Gbaramatu, Egbema and Ogulagha as it is applicable to the Itsekiris and Ilaje Communities without delay.

2 We demand that the unholy alliance which exist between Chevron and Hon.George Timinimi ochestrated to keep the communities in the dark should be terminated with immediate effect to usher in a new government of the forum.

3. We demand that what is acruable to us as communities should be given to us through the transparent implementation of the GMOU in the spirit of justice, equity and fairness.

4. We demand that henceforth there should be a rotational system of government as the group president and other exco members are to be zoned from one kingdom to the other respectively.

The group advised the Delta State Government to call George Timinimi to order since Chevron is just aiding and abetting to enable him to continue his evil enterprise.

The Concerned Youth Group expressed worries and anger that the management of Chevron and Hon. George Timinimi deliberately refused to use the instruments of their offices to do the needful while the people suffer untold hardship just because of the selfish ego of one man.

The Youth Group as a last resort therefore, placed all the security aperatives on notice particularly the Nigeria Navy, NNS Delta, the Officers and men of the 3 Battalion Nigeria Army and the Delta State Commissioner of Police to understand that the unbridled attitude of some bad eggs in Chevron conniving with George Timinimi to shortchange Gbaramatu, Egbema and Ogulagha communities could become a full scale conflagration if not nipped in the bud.

According to the youth body of kingdoms, it is sad for the Delta State Government to allow one single individual in the person of George Timinimi to lord it over his people without recourse to their fundamental human rights to decide what to do with what is acruable to them from the GMOU he refused to implement.
