Delta: Youths Set Tanker Ablaze
A petrol tanker has been set ablaze for reportedly knocking down a yet-to-be identified youth at the NPA Expressway, near Effurun Roundabout in Uvwie council area of Delta.
The Nation gathered the incident happened on Wednesday night close to the popular Delta Mall in the roundabout.
The incident has caused serious tension in the area with residents advised to avoid that axis.
Residents said the victim maybe one of those who hid under the guise of the protest but did not return home and decided to collect money from motorists, especially tanker drivers plying the route.
He was said to have climbed one of the tankers and fell down but an incoming truck, which may not have seen him, crushed him to death.
Angry boys in the area reportedly set the truck on fire, Thursday morning.
However, security operatives have been drafted to the area to ensure the situation does not escalate.
It was gathered orders have been issued for an ambulance to take the deceased to a morgue while efforts were on to meet with the bereaved family.
When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, promised to get back with details, but was yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.
