Ughelli: Urhobo Youth Leader Wants Delta Police To Pardon Videographer Behind Viral Video

President of Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, Youthwing, Comrade Efemena Umukoro has called on the police in Delta State to drop charges against the videographer, behind the viral video in Ughelli when the Delta Safe police team tried to arrest a youth in Ughelli, as he urged the Police Command to temper justice with mercy.

Recall that detectives from the Delta State Police Command arrested the videographer behind last Saturday’s viral video alleging the killing of one Joshua Ambrose by the Delta Safe team (which the videographer erroneously said was the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS), in Ughelli, headquarters of Ughelli North local government area of the state.

The videographer, Prince Nicholas Makolomi, was arrested on Monday at an undisclosed location in Ughelli by the crack detectives who we gathered trailed him to his Ughelli residence where he was picked up.

According to police sources, the suspect will be charged to court on allegations of inciting violence, false information and other criminal charges in relation to the cyber criminal laws.

Speaking to journalists on the development, Umukoro who commended the police under CP Hafiz Inuwa over their determination to curb crime in the state, said the police and Makalomi have their faults on the way the whole incidence was handled.

He said: “The only fault of the videograpgher who happens to be a member of my constituent as Urhobo youth leader was that he announced that Joshua was dead when he was not. He said referred to the police team as SARS when it was Delta Safe. That is fake news.”

Also, he he said the police officers at the scene of the incidence were not professional enough.

His words: “They are supposed to have place the suspect in handcuff to safeguard him and not give room for him to have jumped down. Also, they ought to have calmed down and explain to the people around to safeguard the victim instead of veering off in his car. If the suspect wanted to die he would have died because the police gave room for that by not safeguarding him.

“So, since there is error from both the police angle and a member of my constituency, I appeal to the police to overlook the faults of the videograpgher.”

He continued: “As youth president, I am privy to certain information. I have heard many side to the story. Myself and O’Fresh were in the hospital after news got to me that the police went to the hospital where Ambrose was taken treatment to arrest him. We saw a few bruises on his head. He also told us that he is from Kokori.

“Also, early this morning I got a call that the videographer has been arrested. I have spoken to the Officer in Charge (OC) of Delta Safe, CSP Tiwa Mahmud and he told me that he will get back to me.

“Let me get the fact straight. I have listened to the police and have gotten evidence from those in the car. It was the suspect that jumped.”

Furthermore, he said that the harassment of the police is getting too much, adding that he has before now told Delta Safe that with the was they are going that they would get in trouble.

He added: “My constituent in that his video erred because he was shouting SARS. It was not SARS but SAFE Delta and even if any person wants to charge anyone to court it should not even be Safe Delta because they will do so as a pay back to that man for exposing what they have done.”

He called on the CP who he described as one that listens to Deltans to use his good office to release the videographer.

“We condemn giving false information to the public but this person did it because they are tired of police intimidation and police harassment. I want him granted bail and the case quashed,” he averred.
