Delta NUJ: Churchill Oyovwe Has Accepted Outcome Of Election– Okowa’s Aide

Barr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Executive Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Communications,
Governor’s Office, Asaba, has disclosed that Comrade Churchill Oyovwe has accepted the outcome of the election of executive officers to pilot the affairs of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for the next three years.

Recall that Mike Ikeogwu emerged chairman in a keenly contested election yesterday at the Labour House, Asaba.

Latimore who disclosed this via a social media post (WhatsApp) added: “We discussed the outcome of the just concluded Delta NUJ election.

“It is gratifying to know that Oyowe has agreed to move on and to strategize for the future. Peace is priceless and blessed are the peace makers.”

He urged the Union Chairman, Comrade Mike Ikeogwu to appreciate the sportsmanship of Oyowe and work together for the progress of the body in the state.

He continued: “Oyowe will not be challenging the outcome of the election and his decision is highly appreciated.

“Together we shall all partner with government to ensure a ‘Stronger’ Delta State under the leadership of His Excellency the Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa.”

This development will serve as the much needed information to calm the minds of supporters of Ikeogwu, as some members of the union had vowed to seek redress and take up the matter up in court, arguing that Oyovwe won the election.

A post to that effect on one of the platforms of NUJ read: “Aggrieved unionists are heading to the Industrial Arbitration Court to restrain Ikogwu from being sworn in, since union issues don’t go to the normal courts for adjudication especially with the state government and PDP behind Ikeogwu. Any aggrieved member or members of the union can carry the cross of going to AIC since Oyowe by civil service binding cannot challenge his case anywhere in court as it will incur the wrath of his employer, Delta state government.”
