Akwa Ibom Schools To Resume January 4
The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced Monday, January 4th, 2021 as the resumption date for all public schools in the state.
The announcement which was contained in a press release signed by the State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong, came following far-reaching resolutions adopted earlier today Wednesday, 30th December 2020 at the State Executive Council Meeting held in Government House, Uyo, the state capital.
The press release which read in parts disclosed that ”The Honourable Commissioner for Education briefed Council that the schools in the state were still running their 1st Term which is due to end on January 23rd, 2021.
”Council decided that in view of the existing resumption plan, the resumption date for schools would remain 4th January, 2021 in order not to disrupt the academic calendar.
”The Council also directed the Commissioner for Education to ensure that all Covid-19 preventive guidelines are adhered to by all the schools.”
While there is a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic across the country, there have been calls in some quarters for the adoption of stricter preventive measures, especially by school authorities as they gear up to resume activities after the yuletide celebrations.
