Delta: New ACNPN Executive Sworn-In, As Jude Obiemenyego Gets Second Term

Comrade Jude Obiemenyego and five others have been sworn-in to pilot the affairs of the Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria (ACNPN), Delta State, for the next there years.

Obiemenyego, the incumbent Chairman was returned unopposed after Ike Abiagom who was also in the race to become Chairman of the umbrella body for all newspaper publishers in the state, stepped down before the election commenced at the association’s secretariat in Asaba on Tuesday.

With no one vying for the position of Vice Chairman, Fin. Secretary and Public Relations Officer, Alaska Ekele, Segun Asere and Cyprain Eboagu who aspired to occupy these positions emerged respectively.

Other members of the executive include: Mercy Akuba, Secretary and Nnamdi Odiwe, Treasurer.

Mike Maha, an aspirant for the position of Secretary and Charity Okolie Mayor for the office of the Treasurer, also opted out of the race at the ground of the election.

At the time of filing this report, the position of Provost was yet to be filled since no member indicated interest to occupy the position.

In his acceptance speech, Obiemenyego thanked the electoral committee for delivering on its mandate to conduct a credible election, as he promised to correct the mistakes of the past in order to take the association to enviable heights.

Continuing, he said that there is only one umbrella body for publishers in the state, adding that publishers are in different categories, as he vowed that no one will be discriminated in the association.

He added: “We are not a political association even though we will partner with the government in ways possible.”

Obiemenyego called all owners of media houses in the state especially ACNPN members to desist from praise singing of politicians and others that have failed Deltans.

Meanwhile, a member of the Advisory Board, Professor Joan Okoh, who was on ground to swear-in the new executive, charged the new leaders to move the association forward by coming up with programmes that will make this possible.

“I am a witness of how publishers have been impactful in the state and I urge you to do more,” she said.
