DSTG Poised To Developing Sports In Delta, Says Gov. Okowa

The Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has said the state government is poised to develop sports in the state .

Governor Okowa stated this on Friday at Hussey College, Warri, Delta State at the commissioning of a volleyball pitch, two classrooms and a mini stadium established by Brown Hill Foundation, an organisdation ran by the President of NIgeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick.

The Governor said sporting activities are tools for the growth and development of individual life, adding that the state government is ready to develop sports to standard in the state.

Governor Okowa who was represented by the Chief of Staff Goverment’s house Asaba, Hon David Edevbie, said the goverment’s welcomes private individuals who are willing to contribute their quota towards the growth and development of sports in the state.

He said: “The state government wiould do within its power to develop sports to standard in the state to train our youths who are really interested in sports.”

Governor Okowa thanked the NFF President, Amaju Pinnick for establishimg the projects in Hussey College as these would help in no small way by helping the students develop talents in sporting activities in the school.

He said by this gesture he has added value not only to sports in rhe school but the state at large.

Adding: “I wish to thank Amaju Pinnick for this gesture and I urge others to emulate his gesture to jointly move the state forward in this regard.”

Earlier, in his address, Amaju Pinnick said the foundation gives scholardhip to imdigent children in rhe society to enable them have assess to quality education, saying that the purpose is to add value to their life in rhe society.

He said the foundation has chosen to embark on this project to contribute its quota to sporting activities of the school and to put smiles on the faces of students of the college especially sport loving students.

He said: “I belonged to many teams when I was a student in this school. l was a member of debating society, football team and others and I find it necessary to contribute my quota towards the growth of the school in this regard.”

On his part, the Chairman of the Brown Hill Foundation, Barr. Andrew Bekedaremo said the foundation has improved a lot on the lives of many people since its inception in 2011 as it has sponsored well over 900 persons ranging from Primary Schools to Secondary, College of Education, Polytechnic and the universities.

He however said the foundation is limited is its outreach due to lack of funds and therefore called on other well meaning individuals, organisations to partner with them to move the state forward in this direction.

On her part, the Principal of Hussey College, Mrs Mayuku A.A expressed gratitude for Amaju Pinnick for the gesture just as he appealed.to him to put machinery in place to ensure the projects commissioned are protected for the use of the students.

While praying for God:s protection and guidance for the NFF boss, she appealed.for more projects for the school just as she appealed to others to key into the foundation to move the sporting activities forward in the college in particular and the state at large.

Other speakers include Emmanuel Ogidi, among others.

High point of the ceremony was the inspection of the projects, a football match and presentation of a brown new car to Mrs Onuwaje Mercy by Amaju Pinnick amidst cheers.
