Okobaro Urges Subjects To Obey COVID-19 Preventive Measures

The Okobaro (traditional ruler) of Ughievwen Kingdom, HRM Matthew Ediri Egbi, Owahwa II, has advised indigenes and residents of the kingdom to observe strictly all COVID-19 preventive measures as stipulated by the Delta State Government and the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control, NCDC.

In a statement, the Okobaro noted that the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic was real and posed serious threat to human existence than the former.

“Tough, l do not doubt the readiness of Ughievwen indigenes and residents to abide by government directives to curb the COVID-19 pandemic, but l consider it pertinent to advise us to strictly observe social distancing, avoid crowded areas and hand shake, as well as stay indoors in these trying times,” the okobaro stated.

He also urged residents to observe personal hygiene by regularly washing their hands with soap and running water as well as apply alcohol-based sanitizer.

The monarch advised residents to limit all forms of celebrations and social gatherings and put on their nose masks, to avoid arrest, prosecution and fine of N20,000 imposed by government effective from Wednesday, 23rd December 2020.

The Okobaro urged anyone feeling feverish, coughing or sneezing to report to the nearest government hospital for diagnosis or call the numbers released by the state government, noting that treatment for COVID-19 was free and that it was not criminal offence to be infected.

He thanked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his unrelenting efforts in the fight against COVID-19 and urged all Deltans to support him.
