DESOPADEC Bursary: Ndokwa Students Lament Extortion By Union Executive In Ozoro Poly

Some students of Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, belonging to Ndokwa Students Union have said that executive members of the association have come up with ways to extort them before giving them the needed clearance to enable them benefit from the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) bursary scheme in the state.

Recall that Applications for the DESOPADEC Students Assistance Programme for Deltans, especially all registered students of Delta State origin in Nigerian tertiary institutions is ongoing.

The students who spoke to Oasis Magazine (OM) under conditions of anonymity said the union leaders extort money from Ndokwa students in that applied for clearance from the executive.

They said: “The Union executive members collect the sum of N2,500 from students for online registration which is supposed to be free.”

Continuing the students said, “some of us who wish to register on our own are asked to pay N1,500 for the letter from the union which is a requirement for the application.”

Adding: “We call on DESOPADEC to address this issue because it would stand as a barrier to students who intend to apply for the bursary scheme.”

“Students should not pay for letter from their union after paying the Ndokwa dues,” the aggrieved students added.
