Protect Don Davis Through Family Court Now, Rights Activist Charges Akwa Ibom CP

Popular child’s rights activist and the Child’s Rights Coordinator, Committee for the Defense of Human Rights (CDHR), Delta State branch, Comrade Ighorhiohwunu Aghogho, has charged the Akwa-Ibom State Commissioner of Police, CP Amiegheme Inobeme Andrew, to protect Don Davies Archibong through the Family Court of Akwa-Ibom State.

He said this in a statement made available to newsmen in Warri.

The activist noted that the former Governor of Akwa-Ibom State, Godswil Akpabio, had on December 6, 2008, signed the Akwa-Ibom State Child’s Rights bill into law.

According to him, the law which is an offshoot from the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Child Rights Act 2003 now can become established in Akwa-Ibom State and most importantly, mandates the Chief Judge of Akwa-Ibom State to constitute a Family Court for the state.

Adding that the Family Court with both criminal and civil jurisdictions exclusively on matters relating to children can hear proceedings on the assessment and protection of children as in the case of Don Davies Archibong and every other children related to the said case.

The Activist who had been in the Child’s Rights Situation Room(CRSR) of CDHR monitoring the alleged unspeakable crime committed against Don Davies Archibong had recommended for urgent protection for Don Davies Archibong and every other children related to the said case via the Family Court of Akwa-Ibom State.

Oasis Magazine (OM) had reported how 11years old Don Davies Archibong of Deeper Life High School, Idoro, Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State was allegedly molested and bullied by Senior Secondary Schools Students of the said school.

The victim’s mother, Deborah Archibong, said some senior students of Deeper Life High School sexually abused her son when the school authorities switched him from his dormitory to another dormitory filled with senior students.

“They will remove his boxer and push their legs and hands into his anus,” Mrs. Archibong said in a video which went viral on Facebook and Twitter.

The Magistrate Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom, was reported to have granted bail in the sum of N500,000.00 each to Ndidi Solomon, the suspended Principal of Deeper Life High School in the state and six others earlier arrested in connection with the case.
