…Says Obaseki Cannot Blame Oshiomhole For Another 4 Years Of Failure

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, John Mayaki, has chided Governor Godwin Obaseki and Edo PDP for suffering what he called a ‘delusionary obsession’ with former Governor Adams Oshiomhole amid repeated calls for Governor Obaseki to offer an explanation on his alleged reckless borrowings.

John Mayaki was reacting to a statement released by the PDP accusing him of acting as a mouthpiece of the ex-Governor with his recent criticism of Governor Obaseki’s plan to obtain a fresh 18 billion naira loan, less than a month after he secured another 25billion naira loan reportedly facilitated through the stock market as a bond disbursed by a top financial institution in the country.

Dismissing the attribution of his criticism to Oshiomhole as a feeble attempt to distract from the substance of the matter, Mayaki disclosed he is yet to see the former Governor since the conclusion of the last governorship election in the state.

“Governor Godwin Obaseki and his party of tax-collectors must seek immediate attention and cure to their delusionary obsession with Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. I have not seen him since the last election and can therefore not be said to be speaking his mind on any matter as falsely alleged in the risible statement sent out by the PDP,” he said.

“For four years, Obaseki sang the name ‘Oshiomhole’ like a broken record and made it his default response to questions asked on his failure to pay salaries, build modern and durable infrastructure, and secure the lives and properties of Edo people since his tragic emergence in 2016. He cannot do that again for another four years.”

“Rather than distract from the real issues with a needless focus on name-calling and pea-brained retorts like the one contained in the risible statement published by Obaseki and his cronies, it is important to re-establish the fact that Mr. Godwin Obaseki is mortgaging the future of Edo State with reckless borrowings that lack both mandatory legislative approval as recommended by the constitution and a transparent account of spending for independent checks and verification.”

“It is shocking that less than a month since the governor secretly obtained a 25 billion naira loan, he has returned back to the market to shop for another sum of 18 billion naira without providing an account of how he spent the 25 billion naira or a defense of the additional borrowing before the people’s representatives in the Assembly. This is a perversion of democracy and must be condemned by all well-meaning citizens.”

“Thankfully, the Governor has not denied these serious allegations, even in the statement he caused to be published. But his denial is not enough, he must now give a full account to the people of Edo State, especially unpaid primary school teachers and other dissatisfied public servants on what he did with the 25 billion naira loan he got in December and why he should now be allowed get an additional 18 billion naira.”
