UPU: Omene Condemns Assassination Attempt On Youthwing President, Umukoro
By Daniel Dafe
President General, Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Chief Joe Omene, has condemned a second assassination attempt on the life of the president of the youthwing, Efemena Umukoro.
Gunmen are said to have stormed Umukoro’s residence in Abraka on Tuesday night.
Speaking to Oasis Magazine (OM) during a telephone conversation, Omene said: “It has come to our knowledge that the president of the youthwiong, Efemena Umukoro was attacked. This is the second attempt and we strongly condemn this.
“They stormed his house on Tuesday in the middle of the night. They shot sporadically and even killed his dog.
“This has become unacceptable to us in the UPU because we are not working to serve selfish interest. We are out for the good of Urhobo and it’s a sacrificial job. No one pays us.
“Umukoro is the best president that we have had. He made a lot of impact during COVID-19 as he gave succor to many Urhobo indigenes. So, why do they want to kill him?

Chief Omene called on the police to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book.
“Is it when someone is shot dead that they will swing into action?” he quizzed.
Furthermore, to those after Umukoro’s life, he said they must abandon this evil mission because Umukoro is committed to the cause of Urhobo nation.
While asking Urhobo youths to remain peaceful and calm while the police do their job, he urged those with useful information to disclose such to the police.
