DELSU VC Lauds Former DVC, Aloamaka At Valedictory Lecture (Photos)

Vice-Chancellor, Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Professor Andy Egwunyenga, has described Professor Chukwuemeka Peter Aloamaka of the University’s Department of Human Physiology as “altruistic and fair-minded” with an uncommon passion for the common good.

Professor Egwunyenga said this during the valedictory lecture at the University delivered by Professor Aloamaka to mark his mandatory retirement from the services of the university on the attainment of 70 years on March 27, 2021.

According to Prof. Egwunyenga who is giving DELSU an enlightened and committed leadership, “a university career is a calling and only the deep, erudite but humble are called to the vocation.

He continued: “The University man is not only of great learning, but also sagacious. He is endowed with sobriety. Truth, equity and fairness define his very essence. He is curious to discover new ideas and anger to pursue the ideal in the advancement of human kind.”

The Vice-Chancellor noted, rather unfortunately, that the fore-going characterization of an academic had suffered abrasion, especially in the Third World, where poverty, underdevelopment, corruption and other base considerations had subverted the academic ideal.

He, however, isolated Professor Aloamaka as one of those University men and women who still carried the untainted banner of integrity and inspired hope that all is not lost in the academic setting.

Delivering the first valedictory lecture in DELSU titled “My Story, My Song in Academia”, Professor Aloamaka enjoined all members of the University community to sustain the cohesion and cooperation which were engendered by the current Vice-Chancellor so as to attain the goal of establishing the institution.

A prolific researcher and author, Professor Aloamaka who has scores of publications in local and international journals, condemned the rising spate of ethic politics in Nigeria Universities especially at Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) elections, deanship elections and elections during congregation and Senate meetings.

According to the Professor of Cardiovascular and Reproductive Health, ethic politics is dangerous and should be halted as it has the tendency of discouraging well qualified persons who are from the minority groups from participating in elections.

Professor Aloamaka, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), who is generally seen as an epitome of humility and modesty, commended the current Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Egwunyenga for his diligence and reconciliatory moves which have bolstered staff morale that was at it’s lowest ebb in the previous administration.
