16th Convocation: DELSU To Honour Oyovbaire, Aloamaka

Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, will on Saturday honour the immediate past Chairman of the institution’s Governing Council, Professor Sam Oyovbaire and a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Chukwuemeka Peter Aloamaka.
Vice Chancellor, DELSU, Professor Andy Egwunyenga who disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing journalists during the 16th Convocation Vice-Chancellor’s Press Conference, said this decision was in recognition of “their services to the university and humanity with distinction over the years.”
He added: “The Senate and Council of Delta State University approved the honour to be conferred on these distinguished Nigerians.”
In his words, “as part of the convocation ceremony, Professor Sam Ejite Oyovbaire will be awarded Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) in recognition of specific services to Delta State University, the State and Nigeria.”
Recall that Oyovbaire was chairman of the Governing Council of the University for eight years.

The VC continued: “Before becoming chairman, he was a member of the governing council for over eight years. He remained the longest serving member of the governing council of Delta State University and has been part of the university’s transformation in the last twenty years. Before then, he served this country as Honourable Ministry for Information and is currently Chairman of the Delta State Peace Building and Advisory Committee, a position he has held for over eight years.”
Meanwhile, he hinted that
“the university will also honour one of his very best senior academics, Professor Chukwuemeka Peter Aloamaka as Emeritus Professor of the University.”
According to him, “this is very deserving.”
Professor Aloamaka is a distinguished professor of Human Physiology with over 40 years of experience in teaching, research and university administration.
He is highly respected for his contribution in mentoring and making other professors within the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences where he was both Head of Department and Dean.
