Education Permanent Secretary Admonishes Civil Servants To Plan For Retirement Early

Civil Servants have been enjoined not to be afraid of what the future holds for them after retirement from service but should strive as much as possible to plan effectively for such a new phase of life early enough.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Ede Oghoro, gave the admonition in Asaba shortly after the birthday celebration / retirement of a Deputy Director in the Department of Planning, Research and Statistics of the ministry, Mrs. Oju Marian Ladi.

Mr. Oghoro, who used the occasion to advise civil servants to use their God given talents to add value to the society and civil service in particular, stated that through proper planning, every retiree would continue to excel in life.

He described Mrs. Lady as a committed, dedicated and disciplined civil servant, whose contributions to the growth of the ministry as an education officer would always be remembered.

Speaking in their separate remarks, some colleagues of the retiree, including the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Dr. Felix Akporugo, Mr. Kenneth Ejumudo and Mrs. Obiajulu Heartrest Oburo, a Chief Education Officer in the ministry described the celebrant as a humane, humble and hardworking civil servant whose contributions to service were worthy of emulation.

They noted that she has impacted so much on the younger generation of officers in the ministry, especially through her commitment to service delivery, adding that she was also a God fearing woman.

Earlier, the celebrant, Mrs. Ladi , said that it was a thing of joy to bow out of service after attaining retirement age of 60 years , stressing that with the retirement, she would undergo another new phase of life.

She disclosed that when she was in charge as Examination Officer for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) , she introduced the offline computer based examination, just as she said that as one time sports officer in the ministry, she ensure that several children had interest in sports and they were excelling in that career.

Mrs. Ladi thanked her colleagues in the ministry for the support, which according to her, contributed greatly in her achieving success in civil service.
High point of the ceremony was the cutting of her birthday / retirement cake .
