Gov. Okowa Urges School Principals, Game Masters To Scale Up Sports Development In Delta

Delta State Governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa has called on principals and game masters in schools to scale up their efforts at enhancing sports development and discovery of players that could represent the state in football competition.
The governor made the call in Asaba during the kick off ceremony of the 2021 Zenith Bank Delta Principals’ Cup Football Competition.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Patrick Ukah, Senator Okowa described Delta State as sports destination in the country.
He said that the state was known for integrity especially in sports dominance, adding that such integrity should be maintained in schools.
While assuring the players prizes were available for them at the end of the competition, governor admonished them to display their talents and assist their teams to win matches just as he lauded the sponsor, Zenith Bank PLC for their contributions towards grassroots sports development in the state.

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu said that the principals cup football competition was open to both public and private secondary schools in the state.
Mrs. Ezewu urged principals, teachers, parents and other stakeholders to encourage wide spread of participation of students in the competition.
She disclosed that at the end of the preliminary stage champions from each Local Government Area would meet at the zonal/ elimination stage of the competition.
The Secondary Education Commissioner commended Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa and the Zenith Bank Plc for their continued and unwavering support for the laudable project.
In his remarks, the Zenith Bank zonal head, Mr . Lucky ighadi was very concerned about catching them young, adding that the bank would continue to carry out her corporate social responsibility for the overall good of the society.
At the end of the opening match, West End Mixed Secondary School beat Niger Mixed Secondary School by 5 goals to 1. The competition continues at zonal stage.
