5 State Universities With Highest Tuition Fees

While seeking admission, candidates often look for public institutions with greatest ease of admission. It is however important to point out that public schools are not always cheap. The cost of running academic programs in a university should therefore be considered before seeking admission in order to reduce the possibility of dropping out due to paucity of funds. In many cases, the cost of running an undergraduate program can be determined from the tuition fees involved. In this article, I will be showing you the state universities with the highest tuition fees as obtained from the latest Statistics of the Nigerian University System (NUS) as released by the federal ministry of education.

The university at the top of this list is Edo State University Uzairue (formerly Edo University Iyamho). This institution was licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2016 under the administration of Governor Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole. This university has academic programs across six faculties with average tuition fee of five hundred thousand naira (#500000).

The Oyo State (First) Technical University is the second on this list. It was e established by the administration of Governor Abiola Ajimobi (now late) in 2012. This school currently has about twenty nine undergraduate programs with tuition fee of four hundred thousand naira (#400000).

Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri is among the universities with high tuition fee. This institution was officially established in 1992, after Abia was excised from old Imo State. Interestingly, IMSU has different tuition regimes for indigenes and non indigenes. The average of these tuition stand at one hundred and fifty thousand naira (#150000).

Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) is the fourth university in this category. This institution was originally established by the government of Anambra State. With the excision of Enugu in 1991, the school came under the ownership of Enugu State. ESUT currently has scores of undergraduate programs. The average tuition fee is one hundred twenty four thousand nine hundred naira (#124900).

The fifth institution in my list is Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma. This school was founded in the second republic as Bendel State University. When Edo State was created in 1991, the university came under the ownership of Edo State. It was however rechristened after the first executive governor of the state, Ambrose Alli in the early days of the fourth republic. There are different fee regimes for different categories of students in AAU. The average fees however stand at one hundred and twenty thousand naira (#120000).
