Society Of Women Accountants Of Nigeria Presents Food Items, Others To Widows, Aged Women In Delta

Female Chartered Accountants in Delta State under the aegis of Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN), on Sunday, visited selected widows and aged persons in Abraka, Eku and Obiaruku, where gifts such as food items, toiletries, wrapper, etc were presented.

According to the Chairperson of the group, Lucy Okena, who spoke to Oasis Magazine exclusively, the gestures was their way of expressing little kindness to the beneficiaries and reduce the burden of hardship they were experiencing.

Speaking further, she said that they started the presentation in Asaba on the 21st of October, 2021, at the Asaba Specialist Hospital, where various items were distributed to the patients and some staff of the hospital.

She added: “After the Asaba exercise, we moved to Delta central; Abraka precisely where women, comprising widows and the aged were also identified,” adding that there were still more places to be visited.

“We went to cluster some women in Calvary Baptist Church, where we also expressed our kindness to them by giving them foodstuffs, toiletries and wrappers. So, from there, we went to visit an aged widow with children in Abraka. We also expressed our kindness to her and thereafter went to Eku General Hospital, Eku where we visited a widow with four children. She lost her husband few months ago who was the bread winner of the home and so things became very tough for them. We also gave her foodstuffs and all of that.

“To round it off, we also visited a woman in Obiaruku who is partially blind and with no child. She is living in a hut and her condition really needs help. We want her to live longer and healthy. We also bought her wrapper, foodstuffs and toiletries to assist her and express our love and kindness to the old woman. So, next week, the journey continues. We would go to Warri to visit some of the orphanages so that we can also express kindness to them.”

Asked what prompted these, she said: “The Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria has it as a usual practice to support the national body of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to exercise our corporate social responsibility.”

“So we being women and mothers feel the pain so much and we know where to get all of these people. We know how to identify them, meet them and show them our love and support. It is our usual practice and we are known for that. We do it without hesitation and with all joy that we are touching lives,” she added.

Furthermore, she called on the well-to-dos in the society to be inspired to tow the same path, saying that “if everybody is playing his or her own part, the society will be much better than this.”

“We should be sensitive to our environment. We know those vulnerable, those in need and can extend our kindness to them.”
