Chief Joseph Ukueku (JP), Installed As Eldest Man In Ovre-Eku/Iwevbo Community

It was jubilation galore for the people of Ovre-Eku/Iwevbo Community in Agbon kingdom, Ethiope East LGA, Delta State as Hon. (Chief), Joseph Ukueku (JP), was installed as the oldest man in the said community.

The installation ceremony of Chief Joseph Ukueku (JP), took place at the community town hall and was well attended by many sons and daughters of Ovre-Eku/Iwevbo Community.

In his brief speech before the commencement of the installation, a chief in the community, Augustine Orie, said: “We are here today to formerly install chief Joseph Ukueku as eldest man of Ovre-Eku/Iwevbo community,” saying that before now, they had the likes of late Potokri, late Irikevwie, late Late Uvo Eyimofe, who ruled Ovre-Eku community as the eldest men but today they are no more.

Speaking further, Chief Orie also hinted that as the custom and tradition of Ovre-Eku demands, after the demise of the eldest man of the community, they have to install the one that is next to the late eldest man, noting that Chief Ukueku is the one next to late Uvo Eyimofe.

According to him, “Chief Joseph Ukueku is a man who stood for the growth and development of Ovre-Eku/Iwevbo community right from time and he is going to be installed today as eldest man of the community after due consultations with other elders of the community”.

However, after a brief speech by Chief Orie, Chief Joseph Ukueku (JP), was installed according to the custom and tradition of the community.

While installing Chief Ukueku as the eldest man of the community, Chief Orie called on him to rule the community with the fear of God and stand for the truth at all times.

He also charged him to work with other elders and the women and other stakeholders including the youths for the growth and progress of Ovre-Eku/Iwevbo community.

However, the newly installed eldest man, in his acceptance speech, thanked the people of the community for the installation.

“l am very excited today to be installed as the eldest man of Iwevbo otherwise know as the Ovre-Eku community.”

Speaking further, Chief Ukueku (JP), also said that he will continue to work with the people of the community to ensure that there is development, just as he said: “I am not happy with the way our land are being taken away by Presco. This is the community l was born and brought up and l will continue to protect it by all means and we should be patient. By God’s grace, God will hear our prayer,” Chief Ukueku assured.

He also assured the people that he will not disappoint them for the confidence reposed in him by his people, calling on them to work with him as a tree cannot make a forest.

On their part, Chief Sunday Atawigho, the speaker of the women wing of the community Mrs. Felicia Emoghene, Mrs. Grace Ukueku, Comrade Oghenefejiro Ado who represented the Oka-Orho of Eku, Hon. Chief Ejovwokoghene Ukueku, the Youth Leader of Iwevbo community, Mr. Akpovwene Osobotia London, Chief Theriza Odje and others who spoke to newsmen immediately after the installation, described Chief Joseph Ukueku as a man of peace who stood for justice.

According to them, “Chief Ukueku (JP), is a man of many parts, and as he has been installed as the Eldest Man of Ovre-Eku/Iwevbo community, he will disappoint them.
