Delta Primary, Basic Education Ministry Bans Revalidation Of Private Schools

The Delta State Ministry of Basic, Primary and Secondary Education has banned the revalidation of private schools in the state.

A director in the ministry, Mr Ossai, made the disclosure in his keynote address during a meeting of chief inspectors of education ( CIEs ) at the Hussey College in Warri.

He recalled that the commissioners in the ministry had in a meeting noted that owners of private schools were directed to revalidate their schools since 2018.

Ossai therefore expressed dismay that some private school owners were still approaching the ministry for revalidation of their schools in January 2022 as he maintained that owners of such schools were operating without the approval of the state government for three years.

Ossai warned that from January 2022, no private school owner should approach the ministry for revalidation of his or her school, adding that defaulters had the option of starting registration of their schools with the ministry all over again.

Ossai further directed all CIEs to summit a list of illegal private schools in their local government areas to the ministry on or before February 2022 to enable government carryout appropriate actions against such private schools.

He however disclosed that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had graciously approved a waiver in the payment of renewal fees for private schools in the state for the year 2022.

He stated that those in category ‘ A’ would pay N133,000 only instead of the initially approved N200,000, while those ‘ B’ would pay N40,000, away from N50,000, leaving those in ‘C’ with the payment of N27,000, instead of N40,000.

Ossai also disclosed that the ministry had written a memo appealing to the governor for approval to stop multiple taxation of private school owners, adding that such taxations should be harmonised.
