NLC To Embark On Nation Wide Protest January 27
…As Delta Council Appoints Comrade Zico Taskforce Chairman
By Patrick Ochei
The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has firmed up modalities to embark on nationwide protest agaisnt Federal Government’s plan to increase the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) on Thursday, January 27, 2022.
This plan was communicated to members of the State Executive Council of NLC Delta State Council, comprising of all affiliate unions in an extraordinary SEC meeting presided over by the State Chairman, Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku.
Ofobruku hinted the SEC members that in line and in compliance with the directive of the National Headquarters of NLC, the State Councils shall mobilize all their affiliate unions, Civil Society Organisations, including market men and women associations to embark on the January 27 nationwide protest.

Consequently, the State Chairman, Ofobruku appointed and inaugurated a 9-man Taskforce Committee, headed by Comrade Ziko Okwudi, First Vice Chairman of Delta NLC and President of NULGE, to prosecute the protest.
Briefing the press on the outcome of the meeting, the State NLC Secretary, Comrade Innocent Ofuonyeadi read the three-point resolutions of the meeting to them as thus:
1. That in compliance with the directive of the National Headquarters of the NLC, the Delta State Council of Nigeria Labour Congress shall mobilize all its affiliate unions to participate fully in the Nation-wide Protest/Rally on Thursday, 27th January, 2022.
2. That the leadership of the affiliate unions and civil society partners should ensure that their members take part in the Protest/Rally in Asaba.
3. That the law enforcement agencies cooperate with Labour towards ensuring that the protest is peaceful.
The Congress Secretary however, called on the public, especially the opposition political parties to join Labour in ensuring that the mass of Nigerian people are liberated from the draconian rule of the current administration.
He added that any increase in pump price from the current price of #165 would amount to mass impoverishment, insisting that the average Nigerian people must not continue to bear the brunt of the government’s inadequacies and collateral damages, orchestrated by lack of focus and economic intelligence.
His words, “This Protest/Rally is going to be peaceful. It is just to make our position known to government, that Labour can never fold its arm to watch government keep strangulating the mass of the Nigerian people.
“It’s more or less a warning protest, after which the mother of all protests will take place in Abuja by February”, Ofuonyeadi posited.
