Private School Owners In Delta React To Death Of 19-Month-Old Pupil Flogged To Death

The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Delta State Wing has said that the death of the 19 month old baby that died as after a corporal punishment by a teacher in a private school in Asaba “is like a movie, too strange to be true.”

This was contained in a statement signed by the state chairman, Deacon Monday Ifoghere, and available to Oasis Magazine.

The statememt added: “We, in the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) are greatly saddened by this ugly and sorrowful incident ,especially at a time when the UNESCO in collaboration with the Federal Government is carrying out the *Safe School Declaration* campaign.”

Adding: “While we await thorough investigations by relevant bodies of the government, NAPPS Delta State wish to state categorically that the affected School, Arise and Shine Nursery primary School is not our member. This is one among many such schools that refuse to associate with us for reasons best known to them. Most of these institutions are not even approved by the appropriate authorities.”

Furthermore, NAPPS. extended heart felt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed God to give them the fortitude to bear this great loss, while commending the State government for shutting down the school while the investigation is pending.

“May the gentle soul of Obinna rest in peace,” the statement concluded.
