“To the best of my knowledge the UPU Youth Wing Executives ably led by Comr. Ebireri Ovie never attended any meeting or received any information that the Umbrella body of Urhobo people (UPU) Endorsed or Screened any political aspirant ahead of party primaries.”

Hon. Ochuko Okagbare,
UPU Youth Wing Senior Special Adviser, said this in a statement while reacting to the parent body’s endorsement of David Edevbie for Governor of Delta State, come 2023.

According to the statement, “not until the parent body incorporates the UPU Youth body into their decisions, the endorsement of PDP Governorship aspirant, Chief David Edevbie ahead of PDP primaries will swim on troubled waters without the backing of UPU Youth Wing Executives.”

Adding: “I would have advised that, Olorogun Moses Taiga (UPU President General) exercise patience awaiting the conclusion of political party primaries before presenting a suitable candidate fit to Governor Delta State come 2023. Endorsing an aspirant for members and delegates of PDP before their primary election could give room for acrimony among Urhobo sons whom are contesting for the same position in PDP.”

Continuing, he said that “neither the Urhobo Progress Union Youth Wing Executives nor myself has anything to do with the purported endorsement of Chief David Edevbie (PDP Governorship aspirant).”

“Am making this publication to enable the general public document my position on the said matter,” he said.
