Delta North Senatorial Race: 39-Year-Old LP Candidate Vows To Defeat Nwaoboshi, Nwoko, Ali

Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Delta North Senatorial District for next year’s election, Mr. Ebuwa Ifeanyi Kelvin, has said he would emerge victorious.

The senatorial hopeful spoke exclusively to Oasis Magazine in Obiaruku, Ukwuani Local Government Area, Delta State, on Sunday.

According to him, he has what it takes to defeat Prince Ned Nwoko of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Peter Nwaoboshi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Mrs. Mariam Ali of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Kelvin, who hails from Ila in Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state, said one of the reasons he joined the race was “to kill the fear in young people that if you are not a billionaire you can’t run for elections,” adding: “I want them to know that all they need is just a strategy.”

“I want to contest for this because I don’t want to be part of the problem but instead I want to be part of the solution. I want to go into this election because I cannot sit back and complain every day that the government is bad without doing anything or contributing anything to make it better.

“I want to go into this election because I believe according to my research, that the Nigerian youths have been marginalised from the political society through inequality in income, wealth and power, unemployment and underemployment, restricting them access to quality education, welfare and healthcare services.

“I realised that these people that we have there today sit in power to enjoy after all they enjoyed as youths; remember they never paid tuition fees but they went to school and everything was provided for them. They graduated out of school and there were lots of job opportunities waiting for them. Now, those things they enjoyed in their own time, they have denied us and I think it is high time corrections are made in our country Nigeria,” he said.

He continued: “The main reason why I want to go to the Senate is because I know that the laws the Senators make are not favourable to young people in Nigeria.”

Speaking further, he said that the law stipulates that people less than 50 cannot rule Nigeria, saying the likes of Gowon and Obasanjo, where 39, Buhari—41 and Babaginda—40 when they emerged.

“The same constitution also says that anyone aged 70 should vacate the seat. How old are the people in power today? For instance look at Tinubu, his daughter is 61-year-old and he is saying that he is 69. Is he telling us that he had her when he was 8years? Take for instance Peter Nwaoboshi who is In the Senate now. He has been there since 1979 before my birth and he is still there today and hopes to remain there. So, when will it be time for us? The youths are there hoping that they are the leaders of tomorrow; but no! Youths are not the leaders of tomorrow, they are the leaders of today. They are waiting for the time to come for them to take power, but nobody gives power; power is taken.

“I am born to serve. I want to serve the people not to lead the people. People are misunderstanding that fact. They see these people as leaders whereas they are suppose to be the servants of the people because the real government is the citizens. The people who are supposed to be the kings became the slaves and the people who are suppose to be slaves became the kings and it is not suppose to be so. I want to change the narrative.

“They should vote for me because I want to go to the Senate to be their mouthpiece, their eyes and ears. I want to be the communication bridge between the people and the government so that their opinions would count in the decision making of the land,” he said.
