The Redeemed Christian Church of God has advised all branches of the church to put in place security measures to prevent infiltration of terrorists into its fold.

The church, in memo on security seen by this paper and signed by Pastor J.F Odesola, Assistant General Overseer AGO (Admin & Personnel), said “due to the spate of attacks and current security situation being experienced in the country, the Mission Authority has directed that security measures should be put in place and beefed up with immediate effect.”

According to the memo, “forthwith, security personnel should be directed to carry out thorough security checks beginning from the gates of the parishes and ensure proper scrutiny of individuals before they are granted access into church premises.”

The memo advised pastors to set up security committee to be headed by, if possible, someone with security backgrounds.

According to the memo: “Pastors are requested to discourage carrying of bags by our members and in situations where this is necessary, they should be made to understand that their bags would be thoroughly checked before they are granted access into the premises.

“Our Pastors are further advised to acquire body metals scanners to screen congregants, during and after the service and those that have CCTV shld ensure that they are well monitored. Those that don’t have are encouraged to get them installed in their Parishes.”

The memo also advised against parking of vehicles too close to church buildings.

It further urged parishes to endeavour to acquire fire extinguishers just as it asked that vigils and evening programmes be done with caution and with adequate security arrangements.

It warned that admission of suspicious and unprofiled people into the church premises should be discouraged.

“Phone numbers and contact information of security agents like police, NSCDC, etc., should be displayed to the congregation during our services.

“Most importantly, particular and adequate attention should be given to the children’s and other sensitive units for security and safety.

“Furthermore, while our parishes are encouraged to welcome first timers to church, such people should be observed closely while proper and adequate surveillance are put in place during our programmes.

“We pray that the Lord will comfort the families of those that were affected.in recent massacres and that peace will return to our Nation,” the memo added.
