Edo Assembly Passes Bill For A Law To Establish Diaspora Agency And Repeal Of Rural Electricity Board Law 1972

Edo State House of Assembly today passed two people oriented bills, which include the bill for a law to establish Edo Diaspora Agency.

This Bill seeks for the welfare and well-being of Edo indigenes in diaspora and it is to coordinate a database and foster development in the state

The passage of the bill was sequel to the consideration of the report of the house standing committee on budget economic planning, Industry, trade and co-operatives, earlier presented by Hon Ephraim Aluebhosele, member representing Igueben constituency.

The House at the committee of the whole considered the three findings and one point recommendation of the bill as well as clause by clause consideration without amendments.

The Bill’s passage was commended by the deputy speaker, Rt Hon Roland Asoro, who appreciated the hard work of his colleagues.
The Speaker directed the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Yahaya Audu Omogbai to forward clean copies of the bill to the relevant authority for assent.

The House during plenary also passed the bill for a law to repeal the rural electricity board 1972: to make provision for electricity and its generation, transmission and distribution, within, and for the residents of Edo State, to establish an electricity market for Edo State and for connected purposes.

The House at the committee of the whole, unanimously adopted all the six parts of the bill.

The Speaker also directed the clerk to forward clean copies of the bills for assent .

The Speaker, Rt Hon Amb Marcus Onobun ksc also announced the return of the State Governor Mr Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki from his annual leave.

Meanwhile, a Bill for a law to repeal the Edo State Development and Property Agency law 2018 was deferred to a later date.
