Fire Guts Bulama Community In Delta

The people of Bulama community in Ogbe-Ijaw opposite Panapina in Warri South Local Government, Delta State were thrown into mourning early hours of today Thursday as property worth 16 million naira were gutted by fire.

The fire which was said to have been caused by a stove which was lit and left by a yet-to-be-known person in the area raged on amidst efforts by the people to put out the fire.

Speaking to newsmen, the Chairman of the Community, Mr Romeo Moses said the intensity of the fire was so high that efforts to put out the fire, did not work as the fire burnt down everything they sell including household property.

He said: “The intensity of the fire was so high that despite our efforts to quench the fire, it did not work”.

He said among the shops that got burnt include those who sell drinks, food, clothing materials and others.

He, therefore, appealed to Warri South Local Government Chairman, Dr Michael Tidi, the state government under the able leadership of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and well-meaning Nigerians to come to their aid with finance to enable them to go back to business.

He added that many of them borrowed the money with which they are running the business, saying it would be difficult for them to pay back their loans.

He said: “As l speak, many of us don’t even know how to start again because we borrowed this money to start this business and we don’t know how we are going to pay back.”

While thanking the Warri South Local Government Area Chairman, Dr. Michael Tidi and the Pere of the Ogbe-Ijaw Kingdom for their visit of the fire- ruined- community on the spot assessment, he urged them not to fold their hands and watch them suffer but anything humanly possible to help them from this problem.

He said: “We, the community, especially the affected in the inferno thank the Warri South Local Government Area Chairman, Dr Michael Tidi and Pere of Ogbe-Ijaw Kingdom for coming to see the level of fire destruction of our property and we appeal to them to help us to enable us to go back to business”.
