Flood Disaster: Delta State University Of Science And Technology Closed For Two Weeks

The Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro has been closed for two weeks due to the ravaging flood that has affected most parts of the institution.

Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibuogwu who visited the school to have an on the spot assessment on the impact of the flood on the University, said it was no longer safe for students to remain on campus.

Announcing the closure of the School for a period of two weeks, the Commissioner noted that it was hoped that within the two weeks duration, the flood would have receded.

While saying that the measure was taken in best interest and safety of students and workers in the university community, the Higher Education Commissioner assured students and the school management that lectures and academic activities would resume as soon as the flood receded.

Faculties affected by the flood included that of Administration and Management, Faculty of Computer Science, and that of Environmental Sciences.

Others include the Faculty of Agriculture, Mass Communication Studio, the University Health Centre, the school’s library, Generator Plant House, Staff Club, as well as the administrative building of the university.

The Commissioner who expressed shocked at the level and impact of the ravaging flood on the University, which also affected the Alignment Work Shop,University Guest House, Entrepreneurial Centre, and Department of Electrical Electronics Engineering, said that the State Government was on top of the situation in ensuring that students were safely evacuated from the school.
