DELSU VC Lists 2022 Achievements, Commends Staff, Says 2023 Promises More

Vice Chancellor, Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, Professor Andy Ogochukwu Egwunyenga has felicitated with staff and students of the institution as Christians all over the world prepare to mark this year’s Christmas celebration, tomorrow, 25th December, 2022.

In a statement on Saturday made available to media houses, Professor Egwunyenga, said: “It is with great pleasure and satisfaction that I, on behalf of my family, wish all members of Delta State University Community a merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year,” adding that he is also very appreciative of the hard work, dedication, sacrifice and support he received from all.”

In his words, “we have cause to be proud of our collective achievements this year,” just as he described the year as a “remarkable year of good tidings.”

He continued: “I recall with pride the success of the 14th combined convocation and 30th anniversary celebrations in which we hosted international renowned academics, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, Chief of Staff to the President and Professor PLO Lumumba, word acclaimed public intellectual who gave the lectures.”

He hinted that the 450-page commemorative book, ‘Long Road to Greatness: The Story of DELSU @30, is now available.

Furthermore, he commended the Senate “for midwifing the birth and establishment of 8 new academic programmes now approved by NUC.”

“This year, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria re-accredited our initially troubled MBBS programme with increased quota from 50 to 75, with prospects for further increase next year.

“Recently, we confidently presented 40 academic programmes for NUC Accreditation. Academic and physical infrastructure have been expanded with massive procurement of laboratory and workshop materials, furniture, vehicles, new network of roads and completion of Faculties of Arts and Pharmacy, Nursing Science and Directorate buildings,” he said in his statement.

According to him, “the Faculty of Management Building started on the 30th of April this year, and funded only from IGR is progressing with pace and should by the grace of God be commissioned at the next convocation in April next year.”

Meanwhile, he said that “the Faculties of Agriculture and Management sciences, transferred from the defunct Asaba campus, have been relatively well accommodated, with concerned staff setting down,” stating that “students’ hostels have now been rehabilitated and the hostel culture restored.”

Furthermore, he said that “the university environment is now transformed.”

“More importantly, there is palpable increasing cohesion, peace and camaraderie among staff. This is evident in the uninterrupted academic calendar,” he averred.

While thanking staff members for the role they played in his success story in 2023 and assuring them that 2023 promises more, he prayed that the peace, love and joy which Christmas brings be firmly established in their families.
