Activist To Gov. Oborevwori: Set Up Task Force To End Hike In Fuel Price, Hoarding, Queues In Delta

A Deltan and a civil rights activist, Comr. (Amb). Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen has called on the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to immediately set up a task force team to monitor fuel stations across the State hoarding fuel products, as residents now indulge in panic buying of products.

He made this statement available to our correspondent in Warri, Tuesday morning at around 10:00AM.

He said that the statement made by President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential inauguration on fuel subsidy removal brought about the sudden increments and hoarding of fuel products coupled with hardship inflicted on the people by previous government.

While commending the President for subsidy removal, Comrade Agberen said that the need for subsidy removal became very necessary because subsidy comes with a lot of corruption, as it is not in the budget so it is almost illegal.

Comrade Agberen said that marketers across the State with old stocks of fuel products, took advantage of the inaugural speech by the President on the removal of fuel subsidy to hoard products that were already subsidized and sold them at exorbitant prices.

He said that once the prices of any products or services goes up, the government of the day becomes a failure even if it is for the good of the people.

The tights activist said that the marketers have created panic among residents in the State and as such must be addressed.

Comrade Agberen said that the call became necessary because of the hardship in the country at large, because it is the responsibility of the government to make life easy and affordable for the people it governs.

Continuing, he said that the sudden hike in fuel price and hoarding of products has influenced the increments of transportation and sales of food items in the market and as such can encourage crime to enable the common man survive.

Comrade Agberen went further to remind the newly sworn in Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori on one of his campaign promises, “I will build on Gov. Okowa’s Legacy.”

He said that about four(4) months ago, former Gov. Ifeanyi A. Okowa set up a Task Force product monitoring team, headed by the former Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Prince Emman Amgbaduba, to interface with Mainstream Downstream Petroleum Regulatory (NMDPR) and all relevant stakeholders and ensure that fuel is made accessible, available and affordable to the people.

Furthermore, Comr. Agberen noted that the non availability of the product would cause untold hardship to the citizens in the State.

He urged the Delta State Governor; Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to “set up a Task Force as measures to critically look into the issues that has befallen the people.*
