DELSU VC Is Ambassador Of Judo In Nigeria –NJF

The Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF), has conferred on the Vice-Chancellor of Delta State University, Abraka, an Honorary Award of Ambassador of Judo in Nigeria and 1st Dan Black Belt Holder of the Combat sport which is gaining more popularity in the Country.
The Awards were announced on Monday by the President of the Board of Nigeria Judo Federation, Dr. Musa Oshodi, who led the Federation on a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor at his office in Abraka.
Dr. Oshodi, who is a Medical Practitioner commended and appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for accepting to host and sponsor the weeklong multi-faceted events including the 2023 Refereeing/Coaching Courses and Grading Examination as well as the open Cadet, Junior and Senior Judo Championship/Olympic Qualifier Trials, at the University.
The President of the Judo Board observed that the Delta State University, Abraka accepted to host and sponsor the events while others contacted declined; adding that the Report on “The Road to Paris Olympics 2024” will not be complete without mentioning Delta State University, Abraka, especially the Vice Chancellor.
He stated that Judo was one of the sports that have made Nigeria proud in international competitions, citing the Birmingham Olympics where it was one of the seven sports that the country presented.
Speaking further, Dr. Oshodi poured encomiums on the Vice-Chancellor and the University, saying “You may not appreciate the enormity of what you have done on an individual and University levels.
“What you see as little is not so. We have members of the Federation from 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Our presence will also have some positive effects on the environment”.
Responding, Professor Egwunyenga said the University was honoured to host the Federation, describing sports as an instrument for national development.
While describing Judo as a “Unique sport’, the widely respected Vice-Chancellor articulated the need for the University to synergise with the Federation to popularize Judo and improve sporting activities on campus.
Other top University Administrators present at the occasion were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Mrs. Rosemary Okoh, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Ochuko Anomohanran, the University Librarian, Professor Stephen Uwaifo, the University Bursar, Mrs. Otimeyin Ekakite-Omojuwal, Representative of the Registrar, Mr. S.O. Onaibre (Deputy Registrar, Council Secretariat), Dean of Students, Professor Maxwell Iwegbue, Director of Sports, Professor Edwin Adaikpoh, Managing Director, DELSU Investment Limited, Dr. Rowell Ubogu and Head of Human Kinetics Department, Professor Ochuko Nabofa, who is also a Board Member of the Nigeria Judo Federation.
