Extortion Of FUPRE Student: CP Wale Abass Has Since Ordered Detention, Orderly Room Trial Of Officers Concerned

Delta State Police Command has reacted to a publication published by Oasis Magazine and other online platforms on the alleged extortion of a student of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), by a group of police team around Warri.
A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Bright Edafe, said the “Command wishes to state categorically that the action of the policemen is condemnable and will not be tolerated.”
Adding: “On receipt of that report on Sunday, 21st May, 2023, the Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass immediately ordered the command of the team to investigate and ensure that the erring officers are identified and dealt with.”

According to the statement, “in line with this directive, the commander monitoring unit invited the victim who identified the officers who extorted him the sum of five hundred thousand naira (#500,000), and the money was immediately returned to the victim.”
The police image maker also disclosed that CP Abass has “since directed that internal disciplinary action be initiated immediately, and at the end of their orderly room trial, members of the public will be intimated on the outcome.”
The police added that it is not in the character of the Command to trample on the rights of citizens or resort to extortion, just as the police boss assured members of the public that the officers concerned will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the extant laws as stipulated in the Police act and regulations to serve as a deterrent to others.
The police added: “The following dedicated phone lines are available to the public to reach the command, as a quick response contact for any complaint or distress situation.
