Maintain Standard, Adhere To Operational Guidelines, Ashibogwu Tells NAPPS In Delta

Delta State Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, has urged the proprietors of private schools in the State to maintain standard and adhere to other guidelines stipulated by the State Government or risk closure of their schools.

Dr. Ashibogwu stated this in his office in Asaba when the Delta State wing of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) led by the State Chairman of the Association, Mrs. Precious Young , paid him a courtesy visit.

He told them to renew their operational licence with the stipulated timeframe, adding that between now and the end of the first quarter of 2024, the State Government would not tolerate such schools that failed to meet its standard.

He said that midway into the first quarter of 2024 , private school owners should be ready for revalidation exercise, stressing that it was no longer business as usual where some school proprietors would prefer to pass through backdoor rather than doing the needful as revalidation would now be done online to prove it they had been paying or not.

Dr. Ashibogwu explained that would be visiting schools before the end of this year to ascertain the level of operations of private schools and to see if the schools have operational licence.

The Primary Education Commissioner, who stressed the need for them to meet find a way to meet up with the time given to them to complete the registration of their learners for the 2024 Cognitive/Placement Examination, called on them to partner with his Ministry to move the education system forward.

Earlier, the Delta State Chairman of NAPPS, Mrs. Precious Young said that they were in the office of the Commissioner to rejoice with him on his appointment and familiarise themselves with him as well as to seek for his support to the Association.

Mrs. Young appealed to the State Government to embrace the current national policy on education which spelt it out that 9,3,4 implied that a learner would do 9 years Basic Education from Basic 1 (primary one ) to Basic 9, which is JS3 uninterrupted instead of the cognitive and placement examination.

She further appealed to the Commissioner to the closing date for the enrollment of the current cognitive examination should be extended to the ending of February, 2024 to enable them meet up .

Mrs. Young also informed the Commissioner that NAPPS was a stakeholder in education in the State, adding that they should nkt be seen as competitors but partners in progress in achieving a common goal .

The State NAPPS Chairman called for the extension of time for payment of annual renewal fees to the second quarter of 2024 instead of pegging it to January/February, 2024 just as she urged the State Government to address the issue of multiple taxation as a result of the trespassing of other MDAs into the Education Ministry.
