UGIU To Institute Competition On Written And Spoken Uvwie Dialect

The apex socio-cultural body in Uvwie Kingdom, Uvwie General Improvement Union (UGIU) will institute a competitions in written and spoken Uvwie dialect of Urhobo language.

The President General of Uvwie General Improvement Union ( UGIU), Chief Abovi Hope Erute made the disclosure in his keynote address during the last Uvwie Day celebration at Urhobo College, Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area on Tuesday December 26th , 2023

He explained that the competition will promote and sustain the Uvwie dialect among indigenes and non-indigenes in the council area.

He reasoned that: “The more our people cultivate interest in speaking the Uvwie dialect, the more confidentiality they enjoy communicating in public when they are in midst of others.”

Erute stressed that the dialect should be spoken in government institutions and market places in Uvwie Local Government Area as the yoruba language was spoken in the South West of Nigeria.

He further strongly advised that parents and guardians should speak the dialect to their children and wards at all times.

Erute had spoken on the theme of the event titled : ‘ Pragmatic Approach To The Revival And Sustainability Of Uvwie language, Identity And Culture. ‘
