DIL Partners Restaurateur To Provide Food Services For Students

In response to the yearnings of students for good food at a reasonable price, the Delta State University Investment Limited (DIL), has in collaboration with a private investor, planted an eatery in the “Obiaruku” part of Campus 3 of the University.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the eatery on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Andy Egwunyenga commended the partnership for the innovation, promising he would support the initiative in any way possible, including occasional visits.

He, however, advised the management of the eatery to avoid selling alcohol to the students to avoid unintended consequences.

Professor Egwunyenga, who is giving DELSU an enlightened and committed leadership, emphasized the need for integrating with students as the University was an inclusive and autonomous community.

“It is possible to do everything here”, he noted.

“We want all our students to live on the campus if it was possible”.

He expressed optimism at the success of the enterprise, insisting that, “you have done well”.

The Managing Director of DIL who was announced Professor on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, Professor Rowell Ubogu explained that the partnership was strategic as it would provide the students with good quality meals at affordable prices.

According to the elated Professor, in due course, there would be provision for lecturers, including a book section.

According to the partner represented by Chief Azuka Chibogu, who described himself as “Chief Messenger”, the eatery was an ideal place to have good meals at affordable prices as it represented a dream come true, adding that his previous relationships with the University and the Vice-Chancellor had been very cordial and fruitful.

“There is nothing I have done with the University which I have regretted”, he noted.

The Chief messenger said there would be a ‘healthy diet’ section to take care of older persons who may not eat what younger persons prefer.

The Dean of Students, Professor Maxwell Iwegbue, extended support to the project, adding that he was carried along at its earlier stages.

He, however, appealed that the cost of the meals should be such that the students could afford.

The opening of the eatery was well attended as students surged to be part of the 1st 100 customers who were promised special promotional offers.

It would be re-called that recently a similar restaurant was opened at the University Guest House on Campus I.
