One Dead, Several Injured As Fulani Herdsmen, Fishermen Clash In Delta Community

A clash between Fulani herdsmen and fishermen in the Uwheru community bush in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State has resulted in one death and several injuries.
A reliable source, who wishes to remain anonymous, informed Daily Independent that the incident occurred around 12 pm on Monday, February 5, 2024.
He disclosed that One of the victims, Mr. Ofe Ekevwerho from the Uwheru community, sustained multiple gunshot wounds all over his body and tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Another individual, identified as Mr. Roland, suffered serious gunshot injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at an undisclosed location in Ughelli town.

The incident has sparked outrage and unrest among the residents of Uwheru and Unenurhie communities, leading to the blockade of the Port Harcourt expressway.
The protesters are demanding justice for the deceased and wounded, as well as calling on the state and federal governments to intervene and address the escalating tensions between the Fulani herdsmen and the local residents.
Additionally, the community members are urging authorities to take action to ensure the safety and security of their lands.
The tragic clash has left the Uwheru community reeling, as they mourn the loss of Mr. Ofe Ekevwerho and grapple with the repercussions of the violent confrontation.
The wounded, including Mr. Roland, are receiving urgent medical attention as the community awaits updates on their conditions.
When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, stated that angry members of the Uwherun community refused to allow security personnel entry, making it difficult for him to obtain details of what actually happened.
